Fantasies at el Prado is the result of four years of work (2018-2021) in which Alberto García-Alix manages to create his own imaginary, based on the art gallery that holds El Prado Museum, using the double or multiple exposure technique on analog film.
“Each painting is a world. And as such, I have taken it to invent and build a new one.”
With his gaze, his imagination, the overlapping of images, the focus, the blur, a small flashlight and the vibratory movement of his camera as the only tools, García-Alix repaints some of El Prado’s masterpieces, creating phantasmagorias, granting mystery, tension and movement to the painting, and giving flesh and breath to the sculptures.
The book has a prologue written by the curator Manuela Mena, PhD in Art History from the Complutense University of Madrid and deputy director of Conservation and Research at the El Prado Museum (1981 to 1996).
