04 May Fierce expressionism in La Térmica, Málaga
The exhibition “Fierce Expressionism” by Alberto García-Alix arrives for the first time at Spain. After touring Russia, Uruguay and France, it now stops at La Térmica, the center of contemporary culture of the Diputación de Málaga. It does so by expanding its content with six new portraits. Composed of a total of 54 works, the exhibition is a journey through the photographer’s most recent work in which he invents a new imaginary that includes landscapes, portraits, self-portraits, architecture and motorcycles.
In the author’s own words, this series of photographs represents «the dream of a disaster and its aftermath. The epic of a breath. Search and intention. If yesterday I looked at the world around me with naturalism and objectivity, today the subjective and, even more, the intuitive prevail. I photograph to exalt an idea, a fable or a lament… These images are fragments of a new and proper imaginary. I deform, compress or enlarge a record parallel to the one that I strip of references and steal time».
“Fierce Expressionism” can be visited from Tuesday to Sunday, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., from May 4 to early October 2023, with free admission.
