The place of no return

This work´s central thread is based on a forty-minute audiovisual piece in which Alberto García-Alix, in his own voice and from a subjective present, reflects on his past and his photographic work. An “infinite monologue” through which García-Alix brings us closer to his most intimate and poetic side, a journey to memory between the present and the past of his work and, therefore, his own biography.

Photography chains my memory. It doesn’t just restrict it to what is seen.

The melancholic emotion of the irrecusable becomes visible.
The soul of photography is the encounter.
If yesterday I photographed  silences today I photograph my own voice.

This trip woven into a memory of lights, flashes, optical illusions,

Pursues a revelation.
A bridge.

A bridge over the abyss.
The visible scenery of a feeling in sync with my emotions.
Today I realize that a way of seeing is a way of being.
Photography is a powerful medium.
It takes us to the other side of life.
And there, trapped in its world of lights and shadows,
Being only presence, we also live.
Immutable. Without sorrow. Our sins redeemed.
Finally tamed … Frozen.
On the other side of life, from which there is no return.
