27 Aug García-Alix exhibits his Fantasies at el Prado in Badajoz
The Santa Catalina Cultural Space in Badajoz hosts the exhibition “Fantasies at el Prado” by the photographer Alberto García-Alix, within the Arteria-Badajoz project, promoted by the city council.
The exhibition “Fantasies at el Prado”, which can be seen from August 30th to November 5th, 2024, is the result of almost four years of work in which García-Alix creates his own imaginary, from the paintings that Prado Museum has, using the multiple exhibition on analog film, among other techniques.
The photographer manages to repaint some of the Prado’s masterpieces, creating phantasmagoria and optical illusions and giving mystery, tension and movement to the painting, and giving flesh and breath to the sculptures, with the superposition of images, the blur effect, a small flashlight and the vibrating movement of his camera as his only tools.
To adapt to the characteristics of the space, the incomparable setting of the Church of Santa Catalina, a building that dates back to the 16th century and which has been converted into an exhibition space, 14 of the 35 photographs that make up the total set of the exhibition “Fantasies at el Prado” will be shown.
“Fantasies at el Prado” saw the light for the first time in the pavilion of the Royal Botanical Garden of Madrid (2022) within the XXV edition of PHotoEspaña, receiving the Audience Award that year, and later in the Naves de Gamazo (2023 ), headquarters of the Enaire Foundation in Santander.
